Baltimore / Washington International Airport

Baltimore/Washington International Airport (BWI) sits at the centre of the 4th largest, 3rd fastest growing and 2nd wealthiest metropolitan area in the United States, Washington-Baltimore. The airport serves a catchment area of nearly 7 million people within a 50 mile (80 kilometres) radius and is only 25 miles (40 kilometres) from downtown Washington and 10 miles (16 kilometres) from downtown Baltimore. Maryland, BWI’s home state, is the third-richest state in the nation and is also a leader in the biotech industry, with more 300 bioscience companies located in close proximity to BWI. Nine Fortune 500 companies have their headquarters within 40 miles (64 kilometres) of BWI and hundreds of companies with international operations are located in the BWI catchment area.

The Airport has one of the newest international facilities on the East Coast. No mobile lounges or bus trips for international passengers at BWI! The international complex features six gates, three of which can handle FAA Group V and ICAO Code E aircraft. The facility has new federal inspection facilities, a new joint-use airline club and offers ARINC common-use equipment throughout the international concourse.

Mexicana is the latest carrier to realize the benefits of BWI, and now offers daily nonstop service to Mexico City. Air Canada, Air Jamaica, AirTran, British Airways, Icelandair and USA 3000 also offer scheduled international service from BWI and there is also charter service from the Airport to the points in the Caribbean and Mexico.

BWI is the only international airport in the region with an on-airport rail station. Heavy rail service is offered by Amtrak to Washington, Baltimore and Philadelphia and MARC commuter trains to Washington and Baltimore. Light rail service is also available to downtown Baltimore on a frequent basis. The Airport also has some of the best highway access in the region, and is only five minutes from the busy Interstate 95 which connects New York to Florida.

BWI is also the low-fare leader in the mid-Atlantic with both Southwest Airlines and AirTran Airways offering significant low fare flights from BWI. The airport also offers low fare service from America West, Frontier and USA 3000. In addition, SkyTeam, Star Alliance and oneworld all have considerable service from BWI to points throughout the US.

The Airport continues to grow to meet the needs of its carriers and passengers. A new concourse opened in May to accommodate fast-growing Southwest Airlines. A new parking garage and a new consolidated car rental facility have also opened during the past two years and a widened terminal roadway will debut later this year. New food, beverage and retail outlets have opened throughout the Airport during the past twelve months, and more are on the way!

BWI also offers one of the most innovative and creative marketing programs in the country and has been recognized by Airport Council International (ACI) with 13 awards for excellence in marketing during the past three years.

Combine all this with the lowest costs in the mid-Atlantic region, and the choice is easy. More than 20 domestic and international carriers have already discovered BWI, why not join them?
