Biometric Security AG

Why Biometrics?

A biometric system determines irrevocably the identity of a person, be it by search in a database (one-to-many mode) or by confirming a claimed identity of a person (one-to-one mode with presenting a badge or typing a PIN code). This is a new class of identification, since the token to be presented is part of the human body, and not a card which may be lost, stolen or handed to non-authorised persons, or a password which may be forgotten or discovered by unauthorised personnel.

Using fingerprints is still the preferred method in biometric security, because:

  • there is an experience of more than 100 years, proving that no fingerprint duplicates exist
  • it is easy to handle: Just position the finger on a glass
  • there are enough characteristics available to determine a fingerprint match with probabilities of a false match well beyond 1 in 1 Million.

How big is the risk of fraud?

There is no security system which cannot be attacked by fraud, given enough time and know-how. This is true for biometric systems as well, but there are several properties which place the security of those systems above conventional methods:

  • To break a biometric system the imposter would have to have enough knowledge of the methods employed in a specific system
  • The enrolled fingerprint of an enrolled person should be available to him in three-dimensional form
  • The attack should be possible without anybody carefully looking at what is going on
  • Various systems have provisions against fake fingers and would reject matching of a ‘dead’ finger.

With a system well integrated into an adequate environment the difficulties to achieve a false acceptance of a not-enrolled person are quite considerable, and on a much higher level than with conventional systems.

Where can we get those systems?

Biometric Security AG is a European company with more than ten years’ experience in biometric identification technology for applications in physical access control as well as logical access control, e.g. computer and computer network access. The company supplies a range of biometric security systems that are particularly suited to utilisation in airport operation areas for ensuring secure, controlled access to both airport areas and airport IT networks. These biometric identification products include autonomous terminals for physical access security systems, supported by its own sophisticated access control software, IT access control software and matching fingerprint readers for PCs and laptops including client-server networks, and other related products.

Biometric physical access security system

Our physical access security solutions provide a proven method to control, restrict and audit a users physical access privileges, reducing the possibility of fraudulent access. The MorphoAccess terminal extends the capabilities of biometric enrolment to provide a complete, networked solution to airport access security. With its powerful dedicated processor and advanced fingerprint matching algorithms, MorphoAccess sets the standard for physical access security solutions. Easy to install and use, MorphoAccess can be configured to locally control and monitor a door or set to seamlessly integrate into existing access control systems. The advantages of the MorphoAccess system include:

  • Centralised biometric credential management eases administration costs
  • State-of-the-art extraction and matching algorithms provide an unsurpassed level of security
  • Easy integration into existing card-based access control systems and communication protocols
  • Very quick results in the so-called identification mode (without using PINs, badges or other pre- identifying methods)

Access control software

To all our terminals we supply physical access software which connects the terminals to a Host computer, where node configuration and network monitoring capabilities are available and central management of the terminals is possible including user profiles and transaction auditing. The software is designed to connect to third party applications IF presence monitoring and time & attendance recording.

Biometric IT security system

Identix® BioLogon® software is a comprehensive security application that uses advanced biometric technology to replace or supplement passwords with biometric credentials, thereby providing highly scalable information technology security. Robust - authentication can protect a single computer enterprise network with thousands of computers complex network domain configurations. The BioLogon® Client / Server architecture extends and enhances operating systems' security infrastructure. Administrators can centrally configure all workstations and user policies from any workstations. Workstations within a single domain can with a compatible fingerprint reader - this credential management provides the customised network security policies.

Fingerprint reader on PC card

The BioTouch® PC Card fingerprint reader from Identix provides laptop security while maintaining user privacy and confidentiality. The BioTouch® PC Card produces the consistent image quality critical to biometric accuracy. It streamlines the authentication process for laptop users on the go. For desktop workstation users the fingerprint reader BioTouch® USB is used.

The BioTouch® PC Card is a breakthrough in security and convenience for laptop users. It comes with the award-winning Identix® BioLogon® software, which enables controlled access to laptops. Users can easily take advantage of security delivered in a compact and robust package.

Inside a single Type II PC card is a fully functional optical fingerprint reader. The user need simply press the retractable button on the side of the PC card to slide out the fingerprint reader. A simple touch of the finger on the reader authenticates user access to the laptop.
