Djibouti International Airport

Djibouti - an Open Sky Airport

Djibouti International Airport is a modern facility with the capacity to efficiently handle the world’s largest airplanes at highly competitive rates. Today, the airport not only plays host to transit passengers and freight, but since 1995 it has been an important asset for commercial traffic in and around the Middle East and African region.

Operating under an “open sky policy”, Djibouti International Airport welcomes all airlines, regardless of origin. It boasts a 3,150-metre runway and 15 parking spaces that are able to accommodate a variety of aircraft, ranging from the Concorde, Boeing, and Airbus to the Tupolev. Inside, there are two departure halls equipped with sophisticated electronic check-in facilities for passengers and luggage that conform to international standards of safety. Djibouti International Airport’s business lounge is able to cater for the international traveller with its range of comprehensive modern facilities.

All aircraft will be fuelled by one of three large international operators at very competitive tariffs. Catering facilities are provided by SODRAS, a subsidiary of SERVAIR.

To complement the existing facilities, an Airport Free Zone has been created to encourage international airlines to use Djibouti International Airport as a HUB station. The airlines will be able to rent property, offices and warehouse spaces within the airport.

Managed by Dubai Ports International since June 2002 and operated by around 280 staff, the airport has seen a marked increase in passenger traffic in recent years. Djibouti International Airport has accommodated 105,405, 112,092, 129,531 passengers respectively in year 2002, 2003 and 2004.

In addition, the Airport is well positioned to meet the future aviation demands of the region and is actively operating to enhance its services.
