Globalia launches Groundforce as a unique brand for its Handling Business Division

Over the last years the flying business has become an even more competitive market, maturing yet at the same time being vulnerable to many factors such as political, economical or even security issues. Aviation companies are finding it increasingly more difficult to ensure a firm position and maintain it, especially the already competing companies, let alone the new entrants.

Together with its business expanding mission, Globalia Handling (already present in 16 Spanish airports through Eurohandling and Iberhandling - two companies providing service to third parties, and its self-handling activities to Air Europa - the group airline) started its development in the international market by obtaining the license as the second operator at Morocco’s airports together with SPdH (Portuguese Handling Services) and local investors, gaining a place in five Moroccan airports.

Continuing with this strategy, Air Europa undertook another business opportunity, which consisted of buying 50.1 per cent of SPdH Handling. This has allowed the airline to operate in all Portuguese airports as well as several African countries offering handling related business activities.

In September 2005, the group embarked upon a new journey by creating a new company in Mexico: Globalia Handling SA de CV. The company started providing handling services to third parties in Mexico City and Cancun airports, using the support of Iberia and Lan Chile airlines.

With the objective to create a unique look for the development and the consolidation of the market, Globalia Handling launched Groundforce as an innovative brand for its Handling Business Division (under which all the handling companies are grouped). The first commercial launch was initiated by SPdH, which was already a part of the Groundforce Portugal consortium.

As a result, the Group can now continue developing and expanding internationally in order to establish not only an image and brand, but also offer a global tender thanks to its presence in different countries and its wide range of clients.

In this sense, Groundforce has been able to take advantage of the synergy offered by all the companies operating under this brand. It provides not only a complete and global package from the commercial view, but also a major know-how and technical experience as a result of its presence in many distinct countries with significantly different cultures.

Groundforce with its consolidation and internationalisation strategy is betting to continue providing excellent levels of quality and service to its clients, guaranteed by the international certificate quality network, its results and the level of professionalism provided by its staff.
